Russian Auto Theft Ring
Intelligence information is passed on as a result of common investigations. In 1997 a U.S. Customs Officer contacted the Border Unit in reference to thirty-two Mexican made Suburban and Tahoe’s being exported through Nogales, Arizona. After an examination of some of the vehicles it was determined that all these vehicles were either VIN switched and or stolen in Mexico from Guadalajara or Mexico City. This information was given to the PGR in Mexico City where a group of Russians were detained in this auto theft ring.
